IFS
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a powerful and transformative evidence-based model of psychotherapy. It is based upon the theory of multiplicity within the mind, and that the parts, or ‘sub-personalities’ therein take up different roles. It is the goal of IFS to get to know these different parts in order to become unified and move towards healing. IFS can be a helpful method to address a variety of mental health conditions and psychological traumas such as physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, compulsive behaviours, depression, Bipolar disorder, body image issues, anxiety, phobias, substance abuse or dependency, trauma and more. It can be applied in family, couple, and individual situations. If you are interested in the Internal Family Systems movement, feel free to contact Mark to discuss the method further.

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) is an effective evidence-based psychotherapy treatment that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that has resulted from traumatic life experience. Targeting specific memories, eye movements, or bilateral stimulation, are used during the session in order for the client to reprocess the memory in a new way. This method is linked to the biological mechanisms found in REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep. If you are interested in pursuing healing through EMDR treatment, feel free to contact Mark to discuss the method further.
DBT
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a modified type of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Its main goals are to teach people how to live in the moment, develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. DBT was originally intended to treat borderline personality disorder (BPD), but it has been adapted to treat other mental health conditions. It can help people who have difficulty with emotional regulation or are exhibiting self-destructive behaviors (such as eating disorders and substance use disorders). This type of therapy is also sometimes used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In DBT, we work to resolve the apparent contradiction between self-acceptance and change to bring about positive strides in the client, such as accepting change, behavioural and cognitive growth, collaborative and other new skills. If you are interested in DBT, feel free to contact Mark to discuss the method further.

CBT
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking and behavioral patterns patterns including facing one's fears, finding practical real-world ways to respond to difficult life events, and learning to calm one's mind and body. If you are interested in CBT, feel free to contact Mark to discuss the method further.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy is a method of therapy that separates a person from their problem. It encourages people to rely on their own skills to minimize problems that exist in their lives. Throughout life, personal experiences become personal stories. People give these stories meaning, and the stories help shape a person’s identity. Narrative therapy uses the power of these stories to help people discover their life purpose. This is often done by assigning that person the role of “narrator” in their own story. It as a non-pathologizing, empowering, and collaborative approach to healing. If you are interested in narrative therapy, feel free to contact Mark to discuss the method further.

Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. While mindfulness is something we all naturally possess, it’s more readily available to us when we practice on a daily basis. There is growing research showing that when you train your brain to be mindful, you’re actually remodeling the physical structure of your brain and paving the way for healing. If you are interested in mindfulness therapy, feel free to contact Mark to discuss the method further.
